Soccer Gear Uplifts Community In Haiti
As we mentioned last August, Cassandra and Christiana Layman, both soccer players, collected 20 boxes of soccer gear at the end of the 2012 spring season for the purpose of sending the equipment to the soccerRECYCLE program to help those in need. Along with the 20 boxes they collected, Ocean State Job Lot contributed to the effort by donating 3,200 athletic shoes. Arpin Group’s role was to transport the shipment to the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s shipping center in North Carolina, where they would be sent to Haiti.
This summer, the shipment was delivered to Reunion Sportive d’Haiti. Its mission is to “build skills, characters, and communities through sports and education, and to promote the well-being of children in Haiti to reach their full potential in society.”
According to their chairman, Jean Michel, 800 children and young adults received gear during its annual soccer camp. The rest of the items were distributed to several towns in the area.
“We were happy to help get this athletic gear to the people in Haiti who are still suffering,” said Matt Dolan, chief operating officer of Arpin Group. “If this lessens their burden, it is worth every effort.”
