Golfing For A Cause

However, golfing wasn’t the only plan for the day. It was also to raise as much money as possible for the four charities that we selected to help for the event – Honor Flight New England, Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Institute, MitoAction, and Teach For America.

Of the funds raised, each charity will receive $7,000! We reached out to the charities and they told us how this donation will help their causes.

Honor Flight New England

Eleven of New England’s most senior or terminally ill veterans will experience what many describe as one of the best days of their life due to the kindness, generosity and efforts of Arpin Strong.

I have included a photograph of the oldest HERO on our June 18, 2017 Father’s Day flight. At age 97, he was in the hospital the week before the flight. He said that he traded in his hospital bed for a seat on his Honor Flight. I have also included two women that served during World War II that accompanied us.

Thank you again for the generosity, we will be FOREVER GRATEFUL.

Jimmy Fund/Dana Farber Cancer Institute

The Jimmy Fund is incredibly grateful for the support of the Arpin Strong Golf Tournament. Proceeds from this event will go to help fund world-class cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. Now more than ever before, Dana-Farber relies heavily on philanthropy to fund research that will lead to the next cancer breakthroughs. Thanks to the support of the Arpin Strong Golf Tournament, our physician-scientists can continue to develop new clinical trials, drive innovation and deliver personalized treatments to our patients. With your partnership, Dana-Farber will continue to pursue new discoveries until our mission to conquer cancer is achieved.

MitoAction is honored to be a beneficiary of the Arpin Strong Golf Tournament. Thank you so very much!

Arpin Strong’s support of MitoAction helps us improve the quality of life for children, adults, and families living with mitochondrial disease through support, education, outreach, advocacy, and clinical research initiatives.

Mitochondrial disease is a chronic genetic disease that can be present at birth or develop later in life. Targeting the higher energy requiring body systems, Mito causes debilitating physical, developmental, and cognitive disabilities. Symptoms may include: poor growth, loss of muscle coordination, muscle weakness and pain, seizures, vision and/or hearing loss, gastrointestinal issues, learning disabilities, and heart, liver, or kidney failure. Approximately 1 in 4,000 people lives with Mito. This disease is progressive and has no cure.

Arpin Strong’s gift will help fund the programs and resources we offer free of charge to Mito patients and families, including our weekly support groups and Mito 411 hotline; monthly speaker series and extensive podcast library; educational and advocacy efforts; and the Marcel’s Way Family Fund, a financial assistance program. Marcel’s Way has the potential to change the lives of Mito children and families who simply cannot afford the full cost of necessary but expensive items such as wheelchairs, adaptive equipment, travel for doctor appointments, and medicines.

After receiving their Marcel’s Way grants from MitoAction, recipients reach out to us with comments such as these:

  • “With all of our extra medical bills and other costs associated with our son’s illness, this grant helped us buy him a tool that we otherwise couldn’t make a priority due to other financial obligations we have for him.”
  • “Insurance does not cover strollers such as the one we purchased and we truly appreciate the financial help that Marcel’s Way Family Fund was able to provide us.”
  • “This will be such a godsend and such a huge blessing! Marcel’s Way is just awesome!”

Arpin Strong’s contribution will allow us to help even more Mito families!

Teach For America

A vast opportunity gap exists between children growing up in poverty and their most affluent peers. Today, more than 43,000 of Rhode Island’s children, the majority being children of color, are growing up in poverty. These students face a daunting reality where disparities in access to quality educational opportunities begin as early as kindergarten and persist beyond high school. Our vision at Teach For America is for all children in this nation to have the opportunity to attain an excellent education. We are honored to partner with Arpin Strong to achieve this shared vision of providing all students with an excellent education regardless of zip code or family background. At Teach For America, this starts with finding, developing, and supporting 55 diverse corps members (teachers) who work in 19 schools across the Providence County. As the primary drivers of change, we set an ambitious vision for what our teachers are expected to accomplish and train them using best practices to drive change for over 3,600 students each year. Support from Arpin Strong will advance our mutual commitment and the work of our teachers who work relentlessly to close the opportunity gap daily. With a champion like Arpin, we are excited and hopeful for what the future holds for Rhode Island’s students.

It’s inspiring to hear of the impact that Arpin Strong’s donations will have. Please check out the websites and social media pages of these charities to learn more about what they do!
